Boric acid, also called boracic acid or orthoboric acid, is a mild acid often used as an antiseptic, insecticide, flame retardant, glass, wood preservatives, in nuclear power plants to control the fission rate of uranium and as a precursor of other chemical compounds. Boric acid is produced mainly from borate minerals by the reaction with sulfuric acid. Boric acid is use in adhesive catalyst construction products, in fertilisers, in printing inks, abrasives, in refractory products, brake fluids, ceramic glazes and frits. Uses in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, in polymer productionq, in detergents and cleaners, in engine coolants, in metallurgical industries.
