CAS No: 1308-38-9
EINECS No: 215160-9
Formula: Cr2O3

Chromium(III) oxide is the inorganic compound of the formula Cr2O3. It is one of the principal oxides of chromium and is used as a pigment. In nature, it occurs as the rare mineral eskolaite.
Used in the production of aerospace super-alloys and in the production of refractory bricks for glass and fiberglass kilns.

Harder than other metal oxides, such as titanium or iron, chromic oxide is ideally suited to environments where temperature and process conditions are aggressive.

Chromic oxide is used in paints, coatings, plastics, enamels, concrete and other construction materials where color strength is a key factor. In the ceramic industry, it is mixed with metal oxides to produce pigments that vary in shade from black to yellow. Chromic oxide is also used in roofing tiles to improve UV stability.
