It is mainly used as a flame retardant. However, it does not delay the combustion itself and instead is an agent for halogenated flame retardants in plastics, paints, pigments, adhesives, sealants, rubber and textile backing. It is used in the production of PET (fiber, resin), glass, enamel, ceramics, overlays and semiconductors. Antimony oxide is also used in the manufacturing of wood adhesives.
